At the moment my garden looks like this.

Gradually over the next few weeks I am planning on turning the lawn in front of the ornament on the wooden sleeper into a vegetable plot. All the flowers in the border on the left of the plot will be moved as they start to die back and I will put up some cloches made from blue water pipe and black debris netting. I have worked out that I will make two veg plots. Each one will be twelve feet long by about four feet wide. That's plenty of growing space to keep me busy. The secret garden is looking very lush with carrots and parsnips. In a couple of weeks time I will pull some carrots to see whether they are all top and no carrot. The cucumber in the conservatory is really producing well. There are four good sized ones which will be ready in a few days time and as I harvest each one the next one can develop. Tomatoes and runner beans are starting to produce a decent crop and the peas that I am growing for the shoots are coming along nicely. It's surprising how much edible stuff can be grown in a fairly small suburban garden.

My cucumbers are a lot slower this year. I've had 4 so far. Like you I'll be sitting my garden in early winter ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteI killed the first cucumber plants when we had a really hard unexpected frost... Lesson learned. I plan to grow some indoors and some outdoors next year. I have just bought some seeds for white cucumbers. It will be interesting to see what they taste like
DeleteDebbie next door grows half size cucumbers purely because they fit better into her fridge. I have heard many reasons for growing particular varieties but that is a first🤣xxx
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing this projects progression. I like growing my veg, but we need to move ours to a better position, especially as K wants to enlarge his shed. We are making a dent in the hedge removal with another taken out yesterday. It was fine & sunny!! Your cucumber looks dandy. Take care, stay safe & huggles.
ReplyDeleteWow, look at you! That's fantastic! I have to get some netting like yours for my edibles.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt looks delightfully productive and I love the veg bed plans.
