Today Tony and I erected a new ranch style fence to the front of our house. The old fence has been on its way out for weeks … no....months. The fence posts are good and sound so didn't need replacing and the replacement fencing was all cut and ready in the garage way back in May or June... I have hinted and nagged for ages about the fence and finally in exasperation I said that if we didn't do it this weekend I would do it myself...… We had it done in less than an hour. Initially we were going to put a picket style fence around but having put the rails on for the uprights I like the ranch style look. I think Tony was relieved when I said that I love the ranch look and didn't want the picket fence. He is really not Mr DIY and is an absolute pain to work with. I am surprised he isn't buried under the patio :-) Another thing I wanted was a towel rail putting on the back of the bathroom door. I had suggested using a wooden broom shank and some hooks to simply rest it on as I don't want a chrome one and couldn't buy a wooden one anywhere. The hooks would have meant that the pole was too close to the door. I suggested putting heart shaped wooden blocks underneath to push it away from the door just enough to pop a towel over the pole. Mr Grumpy gave me a piece of wood and told me to cut the blocks.....I used my bandsaw to cut the four wooden heart shaped blocks .(two bathrooms, two towel rails) The photo shows Mr Grumpy holding them before I have sanded and waxed them. That isn't blood on his hands, it's creosote. I bet he could cheerfully strangle me when I get a bee in my bonnet.
Tom is like this, lol. I have all the ideas and sometimes he just doesn't know how to carry them out. Not his fault, lol
ReplyDeleteLike the idea of a wooden towel holder made from a handle.

Yay for ladies who have a bandsaw and know how to use it! lol
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for the towel rack too.
When Tony and I got together I came with a fully functioning workshop and enough tools to stock a small hardware store.... Tony was a little baffled as he is absolutely hopeless at DIY. He pretends to his colleagues that he is the one that does all the diy jobs around the house...I taught him how to use my router and scroll saw... he loved playing with them. I won the bandsaw in our carving club Christmas raffle..
DeleteThat is impressive!
DeleteLove your idea for the towel rail, I hope you are going to share a photo.
