Last week I discovered that if I overwater the cucumber plant it simply drips water from its leaves. This morning I cut a load of leaves off the plant... it is now oozing from the cut areas... It looks like it has a serious head cold...all drippy dangly and snottery looking... poor thing. Last week we thought it was ready for the compost heap. Most of the leaves were really dry and papery so we cut a load of the leaves off to see if it would revive.. Oh my word has it revived. It now has, not one, but two good sized cucumbers growing nicely. It also has a whole load of fresh green leaves and a flush of bright yellow flowers all the way up the plant. I am so pleased that we didn't just bin it.
Along the lanes I'd love to wend, near Artist's Mews, on Writer's Bend. Where fragrant flowers of every hue sparkle in the morning dew. I wish I lived in Carver's Valley, Quilter's Creek or Cross Stitch Alley. Just think of all the things I'd make, if I lived by Crafters Lake.......... The cucumber is sweating and the Aeonium has rooted
Do you remember when I chopped the top off my Aeonium Schwarzkopf? I left the bare stalk in a pot and simply stuck the top part into a pot of really well draining compost. I gave it a tiny splash of water and have occasionally given it the merest drip of water. Weeeeeeeelllllll… the other day I carefully tipped it out of the pot to examine it... IT HAS ROOTS...… This has been the most neglected cutting I ever took and the blimmin thing has gone and grown roots. Not only that. it appears to have two new side shoot buds forming. Just goes to show what a bit of neglect can do.

I'm starting to think the plants know how much you adore them, and are giving it back in spades!! When I neglect plants, they die. Pretty straightforward :)
ReplyDeleteThat's great. Yes, succulents are very easy to root. They are hardy, like geraniums. I've got a volunteer bell pepper plant and what looks like a cucumber. (from seeds in the compost pile.) I will try to transplant them. Happy gardening...
ReplyDeleteThat is impressive, you certainly have a way with plants.
