Why is it that the simplest jobs end up being far more complicated than expected? This morning I went to cut some wood on the little bandsaw. First of all the blade was too loose so I had to tighten it up. Then it turned out that the piece of wood hadn't been trued. When I eventually sorted that out the drive belt came off the saw. I'd never put a drive belt on so it was a learning curve this morning. I fixed it but gave up cutting the wood and made a couple of cards instead
That sounds like a real trial, but at least you learned something. I don't blame you turning to cards.
ReplyDeleteA shoddy workman always blames his tools. Thankfully it was definitely the tool's fault this time.
DeleteThat sounds like a frustrating start to a project! But, now you have your bandsaw all ready to go the next time you want to use it. :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately not. Tony decided to tinker with it and now it's broken.... grrrrr.
DeleteMay I ask how you learned to use a band saw - through a course, or did someone show you, or did you just read the instructions that came with it? I'm so cautious about power tools but I know the knowledge would come in handy for small fixes around the house, since my husband passed away.
ReplyDeleteI took woodworking classes about thirty years ago. I learned how to make furniture, turn wood on a lathe and how to use power tools. It's such a shame that these courses aren't offered any more
DeleteYes, it's the same here. Our high schools and community college used to offer night courses in a variety of things. I wish they still did. There are many things I'd like to learn more about.
DeleteWell done for fixing the bandsaw.
