A beautiful sunny day

I'm sitting next to my friend's empty hospital bed waiting for her to come back from having more tests. I've threatened to eat all her goodies and do all the best puzzles in her book. We're hoping that they'll move her from HDU to an ordinary ward when she comes back.  There's a young man in the next bed who's clearly recently back from some sort of surgery.  He's out for the count  bless him. His visitors are just chatting amongst themselves.

I spent most of the morning gardening and sowing loads of seeds. The sunshine makes me itch to be out in the garden and I can't wait till all risk of frost has passed so I can plan where everything is going to go. My porch is slowly filling up with seed trays but this year I've left it a month later to start sowing and I'm hoping to be able to cope with all the seedlings as they start to appear. They're mostly hardy annual types so could actually have been sown directly outside if we didn't have such a serious slug problem. I've dispatched over 200 in the past few days. Hopefully I'll get on top of them before I start planting out seedlings.

  1. I hope your friend has a good outcome and can be moved to a nicer ward. Don't eat all the choccies! We're not sowing any seeds in trays this year, they almost all failed last year. We've just sown some carrots directly in one of the raised beds and planted some shallot sets, but the tomatoes, mini cues, courgettes and butternut squash we'll buy as plantlets in another month or 2. Wow, that's a lot of slugs!!

    1. I planted shallots yesterday. I've never grown them before so it'll be interesting to watch them develop

  7. It’s so nice that you’re able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, even while you’re dealing with the worry of your friend. Gardening is such a therapeutic activity, and it’s great to hear you’ve been sowing seeds! It sounds like you’re going to have a beautiful garden in a few months. I totally understand the struggle with slugs—those little creatures can be so relentless! I hope your efforts to get rid of them pay off and your seedlings thrive.

Good luck with the gardening, and I hope the rest of your day is just as sunny and productive!
