Annoyed

Last night I went out for tea with my usual group of friends.  A friend of a friend occasionally comes along and she did yesterday.  She complained about everything on her plate. The steak was tough,  the chips too crispy and the salad disgusting. The poor manager was as polite as anything as she sat there loudly complaining about everything and demanding her money back. Six of us had exactly the same meal and there were no complaints from five of us. She's done this before and frankly it spoils the night for everyone. We all left much earlier than we would have done. I don't think I'll bother going next time if she is likely to be there. As we left I made a point of thanking the manager for my lovely meal as did a couple of the others in our group. We often eat there and the food is absolutely fine. There's no pleasing some people.

  1. I noticed that on the holiday. Some people aren't happy unless they find fault - it's very sad and, yes, it does spoil things for those who want to enjoy themselves. What a shame a pleasant evening was so disappointing. xx

    1. We've noticed that on holiday too. Thankfully I'm easy to please.

  2. Serial complainers who are doing it purely to get money back (or get attention) are a pain in the bum, frankly. Or some people are just too picky by far. Glad you enjoyed your meal, and I expect the manager was grateful for your words.

  3. Some people are only happy when they are complaining. Leave her out next time. Don't let the sourpuss ruin it for you.

  4. We had some one in our group who was a bit like that, made going out less enjoyable. It definitely made it a chore to meet up for a birthday celebration. I eventually stopped going as did one or two others. It does ruin it for everyone.

  6. I had a former volleyball teammate that would order ridiculous frilly drinks at our after game night gathering, then complained to get it compt. We were in your standard beer bars, not cocktail bar. Or, she'd order a soft drink because they never charged when the rest of table was drinking alcoholic drinks, assuming she was the designated driver. Never left a tip ( I know but US expectation) and would run the server ragged with multiple free refills. I feel its a privilege to have meals or drinks out and want to enjoy the company, not be embarrassed at my table mates behavior.

  7. How embarrassing for the rest of the group. Maybe she won't bother going to that place again seeing as she was so dissatisified!

  8. Oh dear! It does rather spoil the evening when something like this happens.

    1. It certainly wasn't the fun social gathering that we usually enjoy.

  9. Ack someone like that makes for a horrible evening. I would be really embarrassed. I'm glad others made sure to thank the manager and let them know how much they enjoyed the meal.
