Smokeless fuel review

Recently Tony and I stocked up on smokeless fuel for the woodburner. This year I asked the coal merchant what he would burn and he suggested a mix of 'Heat' and 'Red' so we bought a 50kg sack of each. It was so much cheaper than our usual 'Homefire' so I was a bit dubious as to whether it would be any good.  Well I will be buying this from now on as the heat it gives out is fantastic and it lasts for ages in the stove. I top up with about ten or eleven pieces at 10pm and it's still kicking out plenty of heat when I get up at 7am. I've suggested to Tony that we top up the fire morning and night as we aren't putting fuel on through the night and it's lasting until morning.  If he can resist poking at it and leave it alone  I think we'll be spending much less on fuel from now on.  We've tried many brands of smokeless and for me this is the best of the lot. I paid just less than £30 for each 50kg sack. I was paying more than £20 for 25kg sack of 'Homefire'. The cheaper fuel burns brightly too so the room seems to feel warmer simply because it's glowing.  Our whole house is sitting at 17 degrees through the night simply from the stove.

    1. We've used this coal merchant many times but started buying online a couple of years ago as they didn't deliver in our area. Now that he delivers we'll use him all the time

  3. Hope it does keep you warm, years ago I used a smokeless coal called Homefire, it was very good and I supplemented with wood, because where we lived wasn't actually a smokeless zone.

    1. We always used Homefire but it's really expensive now and produces a lot of ash. The cheaper smokeless fuel hardly produces any ash.
