Well Tony has one day to work next week and then he's finished work for good. Unfortunately he's taken to getting up some time after 10am and not moving from the sofa. I don't want to turn into one of those bossy wives but he's really going to have to find something to do. He can't spend the next twenty years half asleep on the sofa or he'll drive me nuts. I've already insisted he gets dressed when he gets up. I was really fed up with him sitting around in his dressing gown all day. It's embarrassing when my friends call in the middle of the afternoon and he's asleep on the sofa in his pj's.
Just be grateful he's wearing pj's, mine would be asleep naked!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this was my world too. Now I insist the TV is not on all day long, and I give him little jobs to do every day. I also tell him I want them done 'now, please', as I know if I don't, he'll simply put off doing them for days. He has no hobbies, despite me trying to get him interested in some, with no joy. As the weather gets warmer (he doesn't cope with the cold very well because of his heart failure) I will encourage him to do little jobs in the garden such as weeding, pruning. I guess the trick is not to let them get stuck in a rut, or they'll be in it forever.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure that he'll find his feet, because he'll have a very dull retirement if he doesn't take an interest in things.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for Tony, one day left before glorious retirement! I'm sure after the novelty wears off he'll be whizzing around and filling his time. xxx
ReplyDeleteOh dear, lucky mine does happen to have some great hobbies, but the pandemic did knock us a bit as we couldn't go anywhere for so long, it's hard getting back into our old routine & we certainly aren't as agile as we once were. No TV here till 5.30pm unless there is some car racing on the weekend & it's either cold or wet.(giggle). Feel for you, but just little bits of encouragement to help with things may do the trick. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! That made me chuckle. I used to have a roommate who did that, in Santa Monica. We were renting rooms from a former ballerina with The Royal Ballet. She insisted that this girl get up, get a job, get dressed, and be productive. Routines are so important in retirement. Exercise helps, too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Tony!
ReplyDeleteMy husband isn't retired yet but I said about him starting a hobby a couple of years ago so when he does retire he'll have something he enjoys doing. It would drive me absolutely nuts to have him underfoot all day. I'd like to do some things together, but the rest of the time can't be sat in front of the television all day!
Good for you! Give him a good kick up the backside - that's not the way to make the most of retirement, take it from me. :-) xx
