Last night after a lot of prep we headed off to one of our favourite towns to car camp. There's a car park in the centre of town but we avoided that one as it's very open. The long stay car park is free to use between 6.30 pm and 9am so we headed there. After parking up we wandered into town and had a lovely meal and a drink in the pub before setting out for a little walk. Later on we wandered back to the pub for a nightcap before heading back to the car park to bed down in the car. It was a really warm night and we were as toastie warm as anything in our sleeping bags. I had thought it would feel scary and unsafe but not at all. It's opened up a whole world of adventure for us both and we can't wait until next year now when we will do a road trip of a few days. It's getting a bit late in the season to think about it but that's not to say that we wouldn't if we get another nice evening forecast. We are aware though that the nights will be turning cold pretty soon. We tried it last night to iron out any bumps in our prep and it has proved to be extremely useful as we can see a few things we will need and some that we won't. Roll on Spring cos we will be hitting the road. If you know of any nice safe spots that we could park up in the UK I'd appreciate it if you let me know in a comment. I won't post details on my blog as we don't want to spoil it for others that might do this. We have already booked a couple nights down in Essex next year sleeping on our friends drive.

Ooh, you hippy rebels, you! You're much braver than me, I wouldn't fancy doing it. Can't think of any good safe spots to park overnight, off the top of my head....well, not ones that don't have a Council notice in them specifically stating No Overnight Camping. Well done you two for being so adventurous.
ReplyDeleteThere's a phone app called park4night and it shows loads of places that are free to park overnight.
DeleteIt sounds as though you enjoyed your car camping. You're a far more adaptable woman than me, I don't function without a hot shower and a hairdryer! Our car's more than big enough to sleep in, but I don't think we'll be trying it anytime soon, I have a really bad back and wouldn't be able to move after a night in the car.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you do about a loo and a shower/good wash the following morning?
I think I'm far too fond of luxury for my own good sometimes! X
We only stayed out one night and came home for a shower. The loo was the problem for me as they were closed overnight. We used the pub loo before settling down for the night. Thankfully I have a cast iron bladder though even I started to get a bit uncomfortable by the morning. We plan to find places with toilets next time.
DeleteWhat a good way to test your new travel plans.
ReplyDeleteIt was great fun.
DeleteA lot of people are getting into that. It's a huge movement here. People are living in RV's and traveling around the US. Glad that you were comfortable. I would be scared. I'm too spoiled.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the videos on You Tube but I definitely wouldn't do it on my own.
DeleteWow - very adventurous. How did you manage for loos though?

Thankfully I have a cast iron bladder and we set off home early before I burst :-)
