I have been stripping out the insulation from the workshop today and behind one piece of plywood was evidence that something had been chewing its way through a large sheet of polystyrene. The nibbled areas are far too big to be mice and I am convinced that a rat has been wandering about behind the plywood. It's a good job it never came into the actual shed and I will never know whether it is recent or older nibbling. The workshop was even more rotten than I had initially thought. Underneath the lino on the floor was a huge area of soaking wet rot and today I have been bashing holes in the wood and clearing away the rotten stuff. Tony has removed the insulation from the roof and as soon as the electric is disconnected in there the workshop can come down. We had originally put the shed on a flagstone base so I will have a ready made patio once the workshop is removed. My intention is to put my garden table on the new patio and extend the lawn. I know, I know I said I was going to get rid of the lawn... and I still might. But I love to see the green grass so for the time being it is staying.
Glad your little furries weren't still in residence. A green lawn space is somewhere to rest the eye among all the business of the garden's beds, flowers, foliage & vegetables. I think we all need a bit of calm in our garden & life.(giggle) Take care, stay safe & hugs.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a squirrel? Do they chew things? Lol. I'd rather be thinking it was a cheeky squirrel rather than a rat.
ReplyDeleteEeeek. Not nice at all. Bet you're glad you are getting rid of it!
