I spent ages yesterday moving the raised bed that I had made the day before. It was tucked too close to the new hedge and I hadn't allowed very much room for the hedge once it starts growing. I've now created a space wide enough at the back of the bed to put a woodchip/bark footpath. It now means that I will be able to get around the back and trim the hedge once it starts into active growth. Last year it was just getting established but I like to think that it's going to thicken up nicely and create a windbreak this year. I don't intend to let if get too tall.. four feet is plenty tall enough for the birds to nest in. I am so pleased that I chose a variegated hedge as it looks like a line of sunshine right along the garden. Once I finished moving the raised bed I made a start ripping out the insulation from the big shed. Tony finished it off when he came home from work and with a bit of luck we should be able to get the shed down this week and the area cleared.
The weather has faired up now and it's time to sort out the raised beds and pull out any moth eaten veggies If it's warm this afternoon my plan is to prepare the beds for the new planting season. Seedlings are popping up all over my windowsills and I will be glad to get them outdoors in a few weeks. I've stuck to growing brassicas and cold hardy veggies so far though I do have melon, chilli, pepper and tomato seedlings sprouting. They'll be indoors for a very long time as it's way too soon to think about sowing much outdoors. I must practice patience and hold off sowing plants that will end up on the compost heap in a straggly leggy mess.
I must admit to been a tad envious of you getting outside into the garden, The rain here has been torrential and its blowing a gale too. Its quick dash outside for whatever is necessary and straight back inside.
ReplyDeleteA little sunshine & warmth do wonders for gardeners to start planning for the next growing season. Sounds like you had a busy day. Take care, stay safe & hugs.
