Busy morning so far

The shed did eventually arrive yesterday so after unpacking it we stowed it in the garage and painted each panel with a lovely pale green wood preservative from Cuprinol called Willow. The shed is fabulous quality and I intend to do a post about the shed when it's all up and running.

Before heading out for my 8am walk this morning, I put a large gammon joint on to simmer. I added onions, potatoes, celery, carrots and three bay leaves to the pan and seasoned it with some mixed spices and plenty of black pepper. We can have soup for lunch and I might make a loaf of soda bread to have with it.. When I got home the gammon had been simmering for an hour so I lifted it out of the pan and smothered it with honey. It smelt fabulous when it was roasting while I tidied the kitchen.  To add some extra vitamins to the soup I popped out to the veg plot and picked a couple of sprout leaves and a couple of curly kale leaves.  I chopped the stalks finely and shredded the greens. They have been added to the pan with a half cup of red lentils. I sprinkled in some turmeric and freshly ground black pepper and left it to simmer. The soup tastes absolutely gorgeous. Once that was all cooked I nipped out to the garage and gave three of the shed panels another coat of cuprinol.  Where was himself while all this was happening?.... In bed.... If he snores tonight he will be getting buried under the shed. I'm not sleeping too well and it isn't helped by having someone snoring loudly in my ear.  I may be sleeping in the spare bedroom tonight if it starts again.

  1. Glad to hear that your shed arrived. It's probably easier to sleep in separate bedrooms to solve the snoring issue. Your soup sounds very flavorful, with all of those herbs and spices. Yum!

    1. I quite like the idea of separate bedrooms but Tony doesn't.

  2. The soup sounds delicious. Hope Tony behaves himself, we will know who to blame if the headlines are man found under shed...

  3. I'm pleased the shed turned up. I'm just putting a shopping list together for meat and a large gammon is on it.
