Turf cutting

I have spent the past two days widening one of my flower borders and digging out plants and bulbs. I've cut squares of turf from my lawn and moved it to the opposite end of the garden. It's looking a bit scarred at the moment but it will soon knit together to become a lovely green sward  (oooh get me).  Last night Tony spotted a shower door next to a neighbours skip.  He brought it home for me to make a cold frame... note the 'For Me. I already have plans for it and it will really come in handy next year when I need to harden off plants.

The garden right now

I had to dig out a lot of bulbs in order to re lay the turf squares so I've put them into pots and will dot them through the borders. It's all going to look a bit battered this year but next year it will really look pretty.

  1. You have the energy of ten people, I swear, Cherie :) Cutting sod is a hard job; I can't imagine how you do it with dodgy hips. Your garden is beautiful both before and after.

    1. Thanks Jenny. I am amazed that my hips don't hurt more than they have done. Perhaps I need a new job as a turf cutter if it helps with the pain..

  2. Sometimes you have to make a mess in order to progress in your plans to change a garden. Sort of what we are doing too. Make the most of your nice weather now & relax a little in winter. Take care & huggles.

    1. I have all manner of sewing projects lined up for the winter but will work outdoors as much as I can until the weather changes

    1. I love gardening and never think of it as a chore... Sadly, housework I detest. :-)

  5. I don't know how you managed anything in this heat! It was 27 degrees at 7am yesterday and the same today. The promised rain and thunderstorms never arrived. Well done, forward planning is the key to success.
