Tony and I have been over to Alexander and Beckah's for lunch today. It's been gloriously sunny and they fired up the barbecue so we are very well fed and won't be wanting any tea tonight. While there I noticed a large cardboard box that was languishing on the path waiting to be broken down and disposed of. As we were leaving to come home I claimed it and have used it as a weed suppressant on my secret garden. The runner beans that I sowed the other week have sprouted so I switched out the smaller marker canes and have put some 8ft tall ones in their place. I am hoping that they will give me a crop in the middle of September which will keep us supplied with beans for a few months. The carrots are doing really well and I have several parsnips looking very healthy. I sowed two more rows of parsnips and carrots which am planning on leaving the in the ground to eat during the winter months. I am tempted to chance my arm and direct sow a couple of cucumber seeds. If they come to nothing it's only a couple of seeds that will have been wasted. It would be nice to have cucumbers to pickle at the end of summer.
While I was watering the houseplants this morning I couldn't help but notice how very pretty the markings are on some of them.

| This spotted laurel isn't really a houseplant at all. It's a cutting I took from a bush last year but it makes a very pretty indoor plant while it remains small |
Such lovely plants and so healthy. I seem to have a fatal touch where houseplants are concerned but yours look great.

I have the same ethos as you when it comes to sowing seeds. If they work all well and good. I hope your cucumber are successful.
ReplyDeleteAll the different leaves are very beautiful. I don't do houseplants as I can kill anything with my black thumbs. Arilx
ReplyDeleteYour plants look so happy and healthy. Good luck with the vegetables. I am toying with the idea of planting some cucumber seeds, too.
ReplyDeleteI do love your houseplants! x
ReplyDeleteThe houseplants definitely have gorgeous markings. I do hope you get plenty to sustain you in the coming months from your secret garden & no camels come by to gobble them up. I finally got that photo......Take care, stay safe and huggles.
ReplyDeleteMy gardening experience is limited to public places outdoors. However, your top photo is reminiscent of some plants I've encountered from South America --Prayer Plants? It's the leaf-image, much like teeth down the midrib. I took it as a "don't touch me" design and didn't. Thanks for the excellent photos, and for the puzzle!
