The weather is flipping awful so Tony and I have decided to have a 'duvet day' today. We have plenty of nibbles to eat and we curled up on the sofa watching cookery programs on TV all morning. At this very moment, himself is snoring next to me on the sofa. My son and his girlfriend took part in a 'Black Lives Matter' rally down in Middlesbrough and the photos that he sent show a very well organised and socially distanced 'Take The knee''. I have yet to see any TV coverage which might show a different thing later today. The weather might have put a lot of people off attending but I am immensely proud of him for taking part. Had we not been in the middle of a pandemic I would have been in town taking the knee with them. They knelt for almost nine minutes and he said it felt like a lifetime. I remember all the 'Rock against racism' events back in the late seventies. The world has sadly learned nothing.

My father met my mum in India during the war, my brother was born out there. I am fair skinned like my brother but my sister is dark skinned. During the 60's and 70's she was called Paki regularly. And although it hasn't happened since then we still get odd looks of disbelief when we say we are sisters. Judgement will always be there.
ReplyDeleteI feel sick to the stomach when I hear of racist remarks.
DeleteThank you to people like your son and his girlfriend for protesting. I took part in the anti-racisn protest in the 1980s, sickened at how my black friends were discriminated against. It's heartbreaking to see that things haven't changed. xxx
ReplyDeleteBless you Vix. I will show him your comment when I see him next. x
DeleteGood for them - I believe they did the right thing.
