I hope I am wrong

My friends and I are convinced that a second wave of the dreadful virus is on it's way now that lockdown has been eased. Tony and I live in an area that has one of the highest death rates outside of London and it looks set to get much worse due to the lockdown being eased.  This means that the risk of passing on the virus will be hugely increased. It's coloured our decision to go and do a big 'lockdown shop' at our local Morrison's. We plan to head out soon and stock up on all the store cupboard ingredients we will need to see us through a total lockdown. We are also picking up a few things for a friend as both her and her partner are in a very vulnerable shielded group.
I do so hope that I am wrong and the virus will just fade away but my cupboards will be full today whatever the outcome.

  1. I suspect you're probably right, Cherie. Our area too has a higher 'R' number, most likely because one of the major hospitals (30 mins drive from us) has seen a big increase in covid cases, so it wouldn't surprise me if we were put into a local lockdown soon. We're also going to stock up, having run down our stores over the past few weeks.

    1. We have a major hospital less than a ten minute drive away. My friends daughter is a nurse and works there and they are expecting to see a rapid increase in cases.

  2. i must admit i did an industrial shop a few weeks ago, the fact we are a tourist destination means that even now an awful lot of second homers have arrived and the big chalet sites are champing at the bit , its easy to tell theyre here because you can no longer park to use local shops and theres lots of families with an ice cream pottering round staring into unopened shop windows

  5. Very sadly it has become increasing clear that all of us have been badly let down by the Government. If lockdown had been only two weeks earlier thousands of deaths could have been avoided.
The following words are part of a blog that I read a few days ago from Norway-
"Life here is slowly going back to normal although there were ten new cases confirmed. They were all well enough to stay home".
In Norway they have no deaths and only 10 new cases - we have roughly 1800 daily new cases currently and still well over 300 deaths per day.

  6. I think you may be right Cherie. You've made me think now about doing the same thing. With Tom being ill we do have a regular slot with Asda but even then there will be stuff that is unavailable like flour so I will do a bit of a shop later.

  7. I am in agreement with you and your friends. I've been adding to our stockpile every time I go to the store. My husband says that soon I can start my own grocery store.

    1. I have only been to the supermarket twice.. including today, since lockdown started. It was an eye opener shopping today. I always keep a good food store cupboard but it was starting to dwindle. It's full again now.

  8. It's the same here. The younger people seem to be much less concerned about this than we are.

  9. Good for you, Cherie. It's always wise to follow your intuition. I have solid amount of extra food in my stockpile, but will continue to shop in bulk and grow what I can. A lot of people in California act like there is no virus at all. It's bizarre. Often I am the only one wearing a mask.
