Fragrant orange blossom

I have just had a wander down the garden with Tony and the scent from my little orange tree is knockout. It's the first year that the tree has been smothered in blossom as we normally only have a few flowers.  It has little three little oranges that are developing from last years blossom but my experience tells me that they don't get enough sun to ripen them.  This year might be different as it has been wall to wall sunshine for weeks. I will be glad of the rain that is forecast for the next few days

I am not sure that the tomatoes are happy growing in the pond so I have moved one of them out and potted it into compost. It can live in my porch. I will leave one in the pond to see how it does. I ordered some expanded clay pellets and was a bit surprised at just how much I have ordered. The tub is huge but that is fine as I intend to explore hydroponics a bit more.  We are also considering using the porch at the front of the house as a greenhouse. We never use the front door these days as it is so much more convenient to use the kitchen door straight off he drive. We just need to remember to open the door inside the house to stop the heat building up too much as the porch doesn't have windows that open. That's another area I need to explore as I have never owned a proper greenhouse before. I will look into planting chillies and other heat loving plants next year.

  1. Will having the door from the porch to the house open make your house too warm? Just a thought. (A thought from a person who really minds the heat! Maybe you are a heat lover, which makes the question unnecessary :))

I hope your orange tree thrives in the unusually warm weather you've been having. We had a hot spell last week and now we're back to really chilly again. I held off planting anything because I saw the forecast. But it's making our garden very late this year.

    1. It will make the house warm but we always open that door anyway to stop the heat building up in there. I open all the house windows during the summer to let the fresh air blow right through the house. We may as well utilize the heat and treat it as a food production area.

  2. Laurie, you are missing a treat. The whole garden hung with the scent of orange blossom last night. We have never had that before and it was wonderful.

  3. Sounds like a great plan to use the porch. Its amazing how peppers and chilli's thrive in the heat.
