Where has all that lovely sunshine gone? This morning we had a good fall of hail and it's flipping freezing again. Anyone would think it was January and not May though thankfully the weather is forecast to perk up again. I'm so pleased that all the plants that we bought the other day are snug and warm on the conservatory table. I am not taking any chances with them until I am as certain as I can be that the cold weather has passed. Last week I sowed some cucumber seeds and i was chuffed to bits to see that one has sprouted. I didn't hold out a lot of hope for the seed as it is a few years old now. I have a yen to go and scatter all my stale old flower seed near the wall at the far end of the field near to my house. It would be really interesting to see what would grow. A man is planting fruit trees in that area. We spoke the other year when I was collecting Elder flowers to make cordial. He was new to the area and had given up a house with a large garden so that he could live a bit closer to his family. He has already planted six different fruit trees on the field and had scattered a wildflower mix along the treeline. The floral display last year was stunning and it was only seen by a few people as very few folk walk that way. I wonder if more people will see it this year, always assuming that people continue to walk now that driving somewhere to exercise is allowed. I feel privileged to have been told about the fruit trees. He also told me where a walnut tree is growing locally but unfortunately the squirrels take the nuts before they are ripe

I think more people will find that their neighbours have become friends during this awful time. Is it the same over there?
ReplyDeleteCold here too, more like mid-winter than autumn. Your garden is looing lovely. Aha, rhubarb flowers! Mine occasionally flowers and I pick & arrange them in a vase inside. They look good. Take care, stay safe and huggles.
ReplyDeleteYou are far ahead of us with your new spring growth, Cherie. We can't even plant until the end of May. It makes the growing season short. Lovely photos! They'll keep me happy until our gardens get going!
ReplyDeleteI love lupins - I thought mine were doing well but just look at all the flower spires on yours - stunning. What a good idea to have strawberry plants dotted around the garden - the word that comes to mind is 'charming'.

You have a beautiful garden, a reward for all your hard work. So nice to have good neighbours.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the flowers to appear on my lupins. They remind me so much of my childhood. We had tons of them on an otherwise rough patch of wasteland. Dad had no interest in the garden.
