Why aren't they listening?

Today, Tony and I packed up a picnic and took ourselves off for a drive out in the glorious Yorkshire Dales. We stopped miles from anywhere and enjoyed the stunning scenery with nothing more than the company of a few sheep. As we drove home through some of the most glorious scenery and tiny villages we both commented that we have never before seen so many car parks packed with people setting out on walks. Are they not watching the news broadcasts.  I wonder which part of  'avoid social contact with groups of people' they aren't understanding. Turning into the Avenue a short distance from our house we saw the same thing. Large groups of people out walking together. I wonder how they can even think about jeopardising our struggling NHS. Please everyone PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM GROUPS OF PEOPLE...   Did you get that   JUST DO IT.  Hopefully this won't last too long but while it's here our nurses and doctors are already struggling to cope. Don't risk spreading this evil disease and giving them more work.

  1. Its odd, I was just speaking with a friend and she says there are lots of people about and lots of cars on the road in her suburban neighbourhood. I live more downtown and I could have walked across the main East/West road in this city without waiting for a light this morning - very, very quiet with all restaurants & most shops closed, couldn't even find a coffee shop open that early! I was out for my first walk since Tuesday and while it was bitterly cold and windy I did enjoy it. I also stopped at the grocery store - and people are very good - chatted with a couple of women before the store opened but kept well apart - everyone lined up and they let in so many at a time. Only a few cashiers open and x marked the spot where we were to stand in line so we were the proper distance apart. Plenty of meat, bread & dairy and a decent amount of fresh fruit & veg but the frozen items and canned were in short supply as the delivery truck hadn't arrived as yet. Also no TP (don't need any and they are now limiting this along with some other things). Everyone was very polite and obeyed the rules - and I am struck by how quiet the shops are - there were no children about at all. The one annoying part is that the head of this chain has been advertising their early opening hour for seniors - turns out my shop is only doing it on Tuesdays and Thursdays - fine but please make that clear. Also the big pharmacy down the road (owned by the same co.) isn't doing it at all so it seems to be a store by store decision - but that's not the impression the ads make.
Quebec police arrested a woman this morning who is supposed to be in quarantine for 14 days after returning from abroad - this is now the law. Apparently Ontario police (the province I live in) will also start to do this!

    1. Hi Margie. We have seen more children out walking in groups or cycling in my neighbourhood these past few days than ever before. It terrifies me to think what they might be carrying back to older family members. This dreadful virus is going to tear through communities and it worries me sick as there are a lot of people over seventy and living alone in my neighbourhood.

  2. One of our state governments here had to close a very iconic Aussie beach yesterday because people flocked there and ignored social distancing pleas.

  4. It doesn't take many thoughtless or selfish people to throw the whole thing out of kilter, does it. I get that people have to go shopping for food but other firms of gathering are not necessary and shouldn't happen. Not right now. xx

    1. It will get worse before it gets better. I am so worried for our older population.

  5. I live alone at the moment so have the luxury of being able to suit myself. I have decided to self isolate and will only venture out if i have to. My friends think i'm mad, but you know what, i don't care.

  6. We are indeed very lucky. I live in a gorgeous part of England but I am sticking to my garden from now on. I have loads of seeds to sow and plenty of cuttings to take.

  7. I have been staying home, too. I do walk my dog in the morning, but that's it. I did a big shop at Costco before people started panic buying, so I have a nice full pantry. I plan to grow as much food as possible this year. The rain has been wonderful. It makes all of the difference, after the several years of drought that we experienced here in California.
