Hip replacement

I have been to see the doctor this morning and he has referred me for hip replacement. I was stunned when he said this as I had assumed that I would have an injection in my hip. Apparently the arthritis is in both hips and he can't explain why one hurts and the other doesn't. He also told me that I had at some point in my life damaged my pelvis?????  Yesterday was a very painful day but after a really awful night today I feel a lot better.  There is no rhyme or reason why that should be but I plan to enjoy a day in the garden as the forecast is for a lovely warm and sunny day. I have no idea how long I will need to wait for surgery but the doctor was very reassuring about the results. He says it is one of very few surgeries that he would have himself.

    Let's hope you don't have to wait too long for your operation. A friend of mine had both hips done and she has never looked back.

      The thought fills me with dread but if it takes the pain away I will gladly undergo it

    That must have been a bit of a shock, but if it gets rid of the pain it has to be done. I know several people who have new hips, one and both, all now walking normally. Focus on the plus points and you will get through it.

      I am good at being positive most of the time. As soon as I am back to normal I will put those walking shoes on and get on with it.

    Oh you poor love, but just think how it will improve things for you. I have problems as well I am only 50 every way I lie hurts and I have the arthritis in my spine.

      Being in pain is dreadful isn't it... No one else can feel it so they have no concept of how bad it can be. Hope you are managing to get decent pain relief.

    I am so glad you are now going to get the operation. I have heard very good things about the results and my husband's cousin had it done a few years back and it's made such a difference to her.

    Cherie, I am so sorry to hear that you need a hip replacement. My friend had a hip replacement and she said the same, she has never felt better. She said the key was not to feel sorry for yourself (which from reading your blog I know you would never do) and to allow yourself to heal, but at the same time, exercise as recommended by the surgeon.
    Take care in the garden.... as today is lovely. I would love to be out in the garden, but after the strong winds we have had, our back fences blew down and today they are being replaced, so I have a couple of lads busy working in the garden. I am making sure they have tea and biscuits.
    Sorry I have not been around during the summer, but I had family commitments to see to. Now that everything is back to normal I can begin visiting you again.

    My friend had a hip replacement last year, Cherie. Before the operation, she was really struggling. She is a keen gardener and was unable to do much any more without a lot of pain. After the op, she recovered really quickly and now she is really active again. You will be fine. xx

      Hi Hazel. I am missing working in the garden most of all. I can't bend down but am managing to pot on my plants so it keeps my mind off the pain.

    Both my Dad and my sister have had both hips replaced and have never looked back. Take care.
