Bag from scraps

I have two lovely pairs of linen trousers that needed taking up... Today was the day so I set to and cut the bottoms off them, then unpicked the hems and gave the fabric a good press with the iron. A spray of starch gave it bit more body to work with. The fabric that I cut off the bottom was enough to make a bag which perfectly matches both pairs of trousers. .  I lined it and padded it with a piece from an old fleece blanket. To close the side seams I used a ladder stitch first in one direction and then to give it a bit more strength  stitched it back in the opposite direction. I ladder stitched the seams both inside and out. I'm really pleased with how it has turned out.. It is reversible so could actually be used inside out if I want to.  It needs a popper fastening and a handle and then it is finished…… The trousers didn't get altered but hey' tomorrow is another day.

Hems from the trousers

opened the stitching and ironed the fabric

The two pairs of trousers are underneath the bag

The bag
The lining

Not bad at all methinks  :-)

  2. You’re a woman after my own heart-hate waste, love working with scraps and the trousers wont take long now you have cut away the surplus fabric. I’ll look forward to seeing it with the handles.

    1. I have just ordered some binding tape from ebay. I plan to bead a nice design on it and us it to make a handle for the bag
