Star gazing

Last night Tony and I drove up to a beautiful place high up on the moors to look at the stars.  It came about because I'd read about the expected meteor shower. We didn't see a single meteor but the sky was absolutely studded with stars. Now I'd like to go up to somewhere as remote as possible so that the light pollution wouldn't dim the sky. If you have any recommendations let me know and we'll book a short break there. I quite fancy Scotland and the great part about being retired is that we can go at the drop of a hat.

  1. Oh that sounds really nice!
There is so much light around here I don't see a lot unless it's a really clear, star-filled night. There are a couple of what are called Dark Sky Parks here in our state but they are far away. They are places with low/little light pollution. There are pretty strict rules about using torches too. One day, when husband retires, we might actually get to see them at night!

  2. Go to Grizedale in Cumbria. It's beautiful. They have a brand new observatory. We had a week in satterthwaite and i booked my husband in at the observatory on two nights. He thoroughly enjoyed it!
You can find it online. We stayed in stable cottage, Satterthwaite. Highly recommend. That too is online with holidaycottages.com
    Hope this info is useful.
