It's ages since I added anything new to the miniature garden isn't it. My new addition is a tiny pond made from an anchovy tin. I need to make some miniature plants and a frog but that's a job for another day.
I've got company coming for tea tomorrow so I've been busy making the base for a shepherd's pie. I've cooked minced lamb with onions, garlic, Swiss chard, carrots and celeriac. It'll develop flavour beautifully by tomorrow when I top it with buttery mashed potatoes. Dessert will be a pear and apple crumble. I plan to cook them the same way I did for the tart the other day. They'll create a tasty toffee sauce and I'll serve the crumble with shop bought custard that I'll enrich with vanilla and double cream.
And if you grow your own celeriac please don't waste the stalks. They're perfect in soup.
I'm not sure which sounds tastiest - the shepherd's pie or the apple crumble! I would absolutely devour both.
ReplyDeleteIt's proper autumn food isn't it.
DeleteWhat a great use for a sardine tin. The garden looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe food sounds delicious. Hope you have a lovely time. I'm sure the friends will really enjoy the meal
Would you believe that we've never met them before. It's the niece of my neighbour that passed away two years ago. They're visiting the area and asked if they could call in and meet us. My friend Suzanne and I stayed at the hospital with our neighbour Joan while she slipped away..
DeleteYour new garden addition is wonderful! Every garden needs a little pond, doesn't it? Your meal sounds lovely, too. :)
