Flaming slugs

Last night Tony and I did a slug hunt in the garden.  We dispatched 218 slugs. Most of them huge things. No wonder my plants are suffering and the hostas are full of holes.

Tony is invigilating today but I'm really glad that I turned it down. I couldn't have spent the full day at uni. I find that I'm OK for a couple of hours on a morning but fade rapidly after about noon.  I've made the most of my energy burst this morning by washing all the windows and decoking the kitchen

And what does a garden fanatic treat herself to when her husband gives her £80 to spend as she likes. Well a long reach hedge trimmer of course.  I've wanted one for ages and hope to try it out this morning. I'll wait until after 9am as it wouldn't be fair on the neighbours

    1. It's a smashing piece of kit. A bit scary when you first look at it but a doddle to use

  2. The only thing that ever thinned our slug population was the nematode worms. They made a real impact for a few years.

  5. 218 slugs? Wow. My husband did this when we had them badly- he got a small lid top , or small bowl, and put it down level in the ground, and filled it with beer! The slugs are attracted to the smell, they fall in and drown. You might need a bathtub with that many!

  6. That is a lot of slugs! They obviously think your garden is Cherie's Gourmet Kitchen. I think that they should be made aware that this meal ticket does not apply to gastropods of any kind.
