A lovely surprise

This year Tony qualified for the winter fuel allowance which we thought would be £300. He had a letter the other day saying he'll be getting £500 so we popped out and ordered smokeless coal and a huge bag of logs. They will be delivered today while I'm at work so guess what I'll be doing this afternoon.  It's forecast to be dry so we can get the logs moved to the wood store at the bottom of the garden.  That still leaves a huge chunk of money to cover the gas and electricity that we'll use.  It's made a big difference to our fuel budget.  I'm currently knitting a pair of socks with a lovely cable pattern in it. I do love handmade socks and have quite a few pairs in my drawer.  I need to go through my sock drawer and throw out any that are past their best. I  darn my hand knitted ones and think it adds character to them... not that anyone sees them.

  1. It's lovely to have that, isn't it Cherie? Husband gets it too and I'm very grateful for it. It'll be a nice chunk towards our central heating, as you say, and a lump sum added to our moving house fund too. Show us the socks when you've finished them.

  2. I got the letter today. Now I'm wondering what I'm going to spend £500 on.

  5. So glad you qualified and with a bonus! It certainly must be a bit of a relief not to have to worry so much about keeping warm.

    1. Thankfully we are well stocked with logs now although it's still pretty mild.
