Swedish death clearing updated

I've been watching a few videos on YouTube and want to make a start getting rid of things we don't use. We have shelves filled with books that we have read, cupboards full of clothes we don't wear and a loft full of absolute junk. Tony is driving me nuts wanting to hang on to it all but letting people think that I want to keep it. He says he likes books... we are within walking distance of a library so really don't need shelves full of novels. I gave nearly 100 of mine away during covid and want to sort through my craft books and give away any that I no longer want to keep.  Tony could set up his model train set in the loft if he'd just get rid of stuff but he's a complete hoarder. Frankly I could get rid of 60% of our belongings without a second glance. I think stern words need to be had before we have a major falling out.

Update.

Well after an initial grumble Tony really got on board with sorting out the books. We've put a huge pile to donate and offered the bookcase on a local site.  Small steps is all it takes to make a big difference.

  1. Well done! You know how I struggle with books. I've really fallen off the wagon recently. I've got this upcoming visit to daughter, but when I get back I am really going to make an effort to get rid of more stuff. It is driving me crazy yet I struggle to rid myself of it. The thing is that I know, once it's gone, I won't miss most of it. Sigh.

  2. I just free cycled a lot of art and craft books to delighted people. I wonder if their partners are delighted, though.

  3. Well done and I did try and leave a comment earlier, but it wouldn't publish, so must get some things attended to. Send me some of your clearing out sensibility. Take care & hugs.

  4. That's wonderful. It feels good to donate books to the library or charity shops. I need to go through my closet, as well.

  6. Good job Cherie! I got rid of hundreds of books when I moved to Cornwall, as they were so extraordinarily heavy. I haven't missed them. Like you say, I can just go to the library. I do however regret getting rid of all my vinyl records (sob) x
