Last night my lovely friend Joan slipped away holding my hand. I'd stayed overnight and gone home for a sleep at 8.30 am. I managed an hour but couldn't settle and went back to the hospital at lunchtime. It was a beautiful afternoon and the groundsman was cutting the grass directly below Joan's window. My lovely friend spent the afternoon with sunshine on her face and the scent of grass filling the room. Her last few hours were spent peacefully in a spacious room that is tucked away from the main ward. I thought I'd be in bits when she passed but I was just so glad it was finally over for her. Our other neighbour had come to keep us both company so Joan had two people who cared about her while she ended her journey.
RIP Joan Smith. You were a wonderful friend and we will all miss you.

ReplyDeleteFarewell My Friends - Rabindranath Tagore
Farewell My Friends
It was beautiful
As long as it lasted
The journey of my life.
I have no regrets
Whatsoever said
The pain I’ll leave behind.
Those dear hearts
Who love and care...
And the strings pulling
At the heart and soul...
The strong arms
That held me up
When my own strength
Let me down.
At the turning of my life
I came across
Good friends,
Friends who stood by me
Even when time raced me by.
Farewell, farewell My friends
I smile and
Bid you goodbye.
No, shed no tears
For I need them not
All I need is your smile.
If you feel sad
Do think of me
For that’s what I’ll like
When you live in the hearts
Of those you love
Remember then
You never die.
Vix that is beautiful. Thank you so much. Xx
DeleteHaving recently lost Tom I want to say how wonderful of you to be with this lady when she passed. I was unable to be with Tom as I had covid and could barely stand but two of my children were with him holding his hands and he had my photo in front of him. Your neighbour will have been aware that you were there and I think you are amazing. Briony
