Yesterday I was reading Sybil's post on her blog http://sybilwitterson.blogspot.com/ She talks about making curtains from duvet covers. What an absolutely brilliant idea. They are already hemmed and need nothing more then heading tape sewing on. You could even slip a cheap fleece blanket into the duvet cover for extra thick draught proof curtains and you can buy some gorgeous duvet cover sets very cheaply these days. Far cheaper than buying ready lined curtains. If you need to shorten them you can simply pin the heading tape onto the end that opens before cutting them and folding the raw end to hide beneath the tape. Curtain stays hemmed and it doesn't need a separate liner. The sets usually come with pillows which can be trimmed or folded down and made into matching cushions... or left to simply be matching pillows. Folding them over and stitching on a popper means you would be able to reclaim them as pillowcases if you should change your mind.
I'd be really interested in any other 'why didn't I think of that' ideas to save money or stretch it as far as possible.

DeleteBrilliant!! xx
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, I bought expensive duvets from Aldi, and I would never have thought of it unless I had been looking at duvet's measurements after worrying about my weird window measurements. But we need all the help we can get these days.
