Phew......

It's 10:40 and I've been for my walk then back home for our usual Rumikub session. I've tidied the kitchen and cooked a gorgeous pork and veg casserole.  I was going to chuck some curry powder in and make a big pan of curry but it's so tasty as it is that I won't bother.  I'll do half for tea tonight with some vegetable rice and then tomorrow I'll put curry powder in.  We've had to have the cowl replaced on the chimney pot as it blew off the other day and was rattling like mad. While he was here first thing this morning the roofer fixed the lead flashing on my porch (it definitely needed doing).  Then I went out into the garden and planted the last apple tree.  I do have to laugh as it takes both Tony and I to plant a tree but when I am home alone I just get on and do it myself.  It was a bit of a struggle though to be honest and I really worked up a sweat digging the hole and hauling the tree out of the pot where it had become very compacted.  Poor thing will be breathing a sigh of relief.

Yesterday I asked my neighbour for the huge flat pack cardboard boxes that he'd had a delivery in.  They were standing behind his bin waiting to go the the tip. His partner was going to put the big sheets of polystyrene in the bin but I took that too and I insulated part of the garage wall with it. The cardboard will be put down on top of the bark path in my veg plot.  The weeds and grass are making a bit of a take over bid so need more cardboard to smother them. Tony is off tomorrow so we are going to pick up some more bark to put on top of the cardboard and it will look and smell gorgeous. I've kept the plastic strapping that held the boxes together and if there's enough I'll weave a small basket to pop my garden tools in.

  1. You are amazing - waste not, want not! I never thought of keeping the plastic straps.

    1. I only allow ,yself to keep something that i can have an immediate use for. In the past I kept absolutely every bit of useful junk until I couldn't get into my workshop.... all useful at some point but still took up storage space.

  2. Busy as usual I see! I also use cardboard packaging for smothering weeds. Look forward to seeing the woven tool caddy. Take care & hugs.

  3. That's great. The cardboard will break down and feed the soil. How exciting to have a new apple tree in the ground. I have a Pink Lady that I planted up at the cabin.

    1. It's ages since I used junk usefully. I am a reformed character and have learned how to say NO when I am offered potentially useful junk.
