Today we are having our old misted up porch windows replaced so Tony has taken the day off work. Poor soul spent 9 hours at the hospital last night with a recurrence of his plumbing problem. Thank goodness he is going for a battery of tests next week and the week after. I left him have a good long sleep in while I was out for my walk and he has just nipped out to the bank to get the money to pay for the windows.
I am so pleased that we have the wood burner as it looks as though we might get power cuts later in the year. It's ok having gas central heating but the pump is actually electric so it would be as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Our cooker is electric too so in the middle of a power cut I wouldn't be able to cook a hot meal. I wouldn't be surprised if we see soup kitchens where people can go for a hot meal and a warm up... It's been a weird few years hasn't it and it doesn't look like it's going to end for quite some time.
I hope Tony feels better soon. Heaven knows how we are going to manage if there are powercuts, but there are two more or less okay adults and a healthy teen so we should be fine.
ReplyDeleteThere'll be a baby boom... :-)
DeleteI can't imagine how hard the energy situation might be for the UK. It could happen here too. Your idea of serving soup or stews to neighbors will be a welcome help.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a tough winter this year.
DeletePoor Tony - he really is going through the mill, isn't he? :-( xx
ReplyDeleteIt's been horrible for him. Hopefully he'll get some answers and treatment soon.
DeleteHope the tests find out Tony's problem. Weird years.........YES!!! All utilities on the rise as well as foreseen closures & shortages, plus with petrol & interest rates soaring, some people are in dire trouble here in Oz. Lit our fire here again last night due to howling wind, which has a very cold nip to it and the forecast of more heavy rain in the eastern states. Aaaah......life goes on despite the mayhem. Take care & hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteWrap up warm and stay close to the fire. Being cold is miserable
DeletePoor Tony. I hope he managed to get some rest!
