Going to check out the local library and other bits and pieces

This morning I am going to check out our local library in regards to internet access, free wifi etc. I also want to have a wood carving pattern reduced in size so that I can make myself a beautiful carved walking stick. Not that I walk with a stick very often as the naughty hip seems to have settled down but it's a nice project that I will use from time to time.

I thought our Virgin media bill was quite high but accepted it as I assumed it included both mobile phones.  It turns out that for the past 2 years the phones have been a separate bill on Tony's account. He has never once checked his bank statement and I'm so annoyed with him. He's had no service on his mobile since July and they've sent two replacement sims... obsolete sims as they should have sent out 02 ones. He's stopped the direct debit and we are switching to Tesco Mobile.  Virgin will soon be trying to get in touch to see why the direct debit has been stopped. Thankfully we are out of contract and I wrote to them last week cancelling the account.

Sooze I'm thinking of you today.  Please know that I totally understand what you are going through. If ever I win the lottery I shall build a complex of small bungalows where women escaping dead marriages could live very cheaply.  It's so unfair that women are stuck in dead relationships purely because of finances. It's like living in the flippin' dark ages.

  1. It's good that the naughty hip (that made me smile) has settles but, at our age, a stick can be very handy to have around. Carving your own sounds fantastic. xx

    1. The library doesn't have that photo copier anymore :-( I am going to have to fiddle around trying to reduce the size.

  2. We have been with Tesco Mobile for years and are very satisfied with them . On the few times we have had to contact them they have been very helpful and efficient.

  3. If the wood carving pattern has a copyright on it, you would have been breaking copyright law by having it photocopied at all, reduced or otherwise!
Normally copyright holders aren't bothered about occasional infringements, but just every so often, someone takes it into their head to land a.n.other in trouble and reports them.
    It's worth bearing in mind!
I walk with a stick at times, as my balance is rubbish, but as I have no talent, sticks may sometimes be hand made, just not by me!!! X

    1. Thanks Col. The pattern in the book is designed to be photocopied in order to increase or decrease the size. I think the issue is if someone tried to sell copies of the pattern

  4. Our local library is a gem. It has a sewing room too with machines. I really need to learn basic repairs.

  5. I'm so glad your hip isn't being naughty any more! The stick sounds rather swish! x

    1. I'm expecting the hip to grumble when the cold weather returns. I'll be wearing wooly knickers :-)

  6. Being an old bank person, I check absolutely "everything" and not on-line as l'm still not sure of having everything on the web so it can sourced by nasty people. I'm looking forward to seeing this "stick" come to life. Good luck with your new telco, take care & hugs.

    1. Annoyingly we don't even bank online. He gets a statement every month which he doesn't even open.

  7. Hi Cherie, I met so many women on my cruise that told me that they wished they could take a cruise by themselves, like I was. Some were in stale marriages that weren't working. It's sad what women give up and sacrifice...(and sometimes men, too.)

  8. Oh no! Sorry about the bill. Yikes. That must have been upsetting regarding finances and such.

I hope you managed to work out the pattern as I read you were unable to photocopy it at the library. I also read someone's reply to your photocopying the pattern and I have to say that most patterns allow you to make a copy as long as you have the original in hand. It's called a working copy. I know that when I'm cross stitching I always make a copy so I can mark off the stitches I've done. You don't want to do that on the original in case you have to unpick and redo!

I use hiking sticks when I walk sometimes. They are really useful. Give you extra balance especially when I'm having trouble with my dodgy ankle

    1. Can I ask how tall the hiking sticks are. I bet I could carve a nice matching pair and they'd be really useful when I am out walking.
