I didn't bother lighting the wood stove today as it just isn't cold enough for me. It's 17 degrees in the sitting room and it was 18 this morning which was a bit on the warm side for me now that I have dug out my cold weather clothing. I think a lot more people will be thinking about layering up rather than flicking the heating on now that the cost of gas is prohibitive, It's not a bad thing to be honest and will really open the eyes of some folk who have been sitting in their overheated houses while wearing tiny strappy tops in the middle of winter. I do realise that southern softies :-) might find that a bit cool but us toughies up north can cope with temperatures a lot lower than you lot :-)
With a bit of luck the train will be gone from my hallway when I get back from whist. Alexander and Beckah are collecting it today and then I can get the hallway cleaned up and ready for the Christmas tree... and no, I don't mean I'm putting it up any time soon but I'd like to give everything a lick of paint to freshen it all up.
No heating on here & it's 9deg outside and 13deg in & I don't mind that. We never had our central heating on above 18deg except when people visited that felt the cold. We often found that it was way too warm in UK homes when we visited late September early October one year & early Spring once. I do feel severe heat though(giggle). Look forward to seeing your Xmas preparations. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteThankfully we don't feel too severe a heat where I live and the occasional few days I can cope with. Have you ever visited Ormesby Hall when you have been here? It's just about within walking distance from me.
DeleteI don't understand people who have the heat turned way up and are wearing summer clothes inside. It's sort of like turning the lights on when it's light outside lol. Sadly, I feel the cold in my hands and feet. Sigh. It's been chilly here in the mornings, but warms up okay by mid-morning. I just sit with my blanket on when I first get up, make sure I open the curtains to let the sun in to warm up the house and by the time I get back from my walk it's mostly been warm enough to be comfortable.
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me groan a little as we (here in Michigan) spend all summer cooling down our houses and all winter warming them up.
If only there was some way of storing that summer warmth to use in the winter. One day some clever person will invent some sort of heat storage system.
DeleteWinter is coming (said like Ned Stark from Game of Thrones). Oh, I'd love to have a wood stove Cherie! I have so much wood that I could burn on it. 22 degrees here indoors today, no heating necessary x
ReplyDelete22 degrees sounds lovely to me. I'd settle for that all year round.
