Thanks everyone for your lovely comments. There are plenty of you tube videos to show the technique but here's a quick photo tutorial. A sheet of A4 card will make two cards. I scored mine at 5cm intervals and straight across the centre of the card... Don't fold the centre line just yet
Scoring at 5cms will leave a 1cm strip at the edge. Cut a piece off as shown in the photo but keep it as you will need it later.
Now fold along the score lines as shown. You can fold straight across the centre line if you want all four flaps to fold down but I prefer to leave one standing up so I fold each piece individually
Now cut along the score line down to the centre score line
Fold in the 1cm tab as shown. This is where you will add glue to turn it into a box shape
I use clothes pegs to hold it while it's drying
To decorate the flaps of the box I cut glitter card into 4.5 x 6.5cm pieces. This gives a nice little border on the base card
Turn them all over and dot with glue. I use PVA (white school glue). Leave them for a few minutes to become tacky before you use them to decorate the box card
On this box I added the glitter card as shown.. Now the sky really is the limit as you can add as much or as little decoration (or none) to these flaps
There isn't a bottom to the box.. This enables it to fold flat
I've used peel off greetings and rubbed them gently to make sure they stick to the glitter card
Now find the strip of card that you cut off at the very beginning... it's likely to be under the table :-) Cut it into two pieces and fold it as shown to create a tab to put some glue on
This is where it will go but don't stick it on yet. You need to add your little decorations first
I die cut Christmas trees and have glued them onto the tabs. Leave them to dry before sticking them into the box card. If you don't have a die cutting machine I'm sure your local craft shop sells tons of die cut shapes... Or look on ebay
Add a good dollop of glue and leave it to become tacky
I've used pegs to hold them in place while the glue dries
You can add loads more decorations or keep it simple. Once it's all dry you can fold it flat and pop it into an envelope. You can add pretty decorations to both the inside and outside of the box card but do be aware it adds a lot of bulk to the card. I need to buy 'large' stamps and opt for second class ones. My experience tells me that they get there just as quickly whether you buy first or second class stamps... often arriving the next day.
Don't forget to decorate the envelope with pretty papers and stickers. It makes the card so much nicer to receive.
Thanks for the tutorial & I may give it a go. We've not got the crafty shops we used to have around here, so I'd have to go further afield to look for glitter card and I'm not sure I'm ready to move about freely unless it is somewhere I know. I get myself to worked up these days in crowded places, though I'd never been good with large crowds anyway. I love these cards. Take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have to be glitter card. Plain card that has been embossed looks nice too.
