Well I never knew that

Tony and I went out to  buy a dwarf water lily only to be told that they do actually grow the same size as ordinary ones they just take a lot longer. We ended up buying a tall rush and five lovely yellow goldfish to add to our pond.  The numbers had dwindled down from 9 to 4 due to a local moggy being an expert at fishing. We are hoping that the way we have built up the edge will put a stop to it. We would probably be impressed with clever kitty's fishing prowess if it wasn't our fish he was pinching. Before we bought the fish we called into a different garden centre and bought some dianthus and some wallflowers for the little flower bed.  I didn't expect the wallflowers to flower this year but the plant label says they flower in spring and autumn so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they just might flower this year.

Isn't the golden privet coming along nicely.

  1. Hi Cherie..it all looks lovely.Have you netted your pond..leaving a little gap at the edges for frogs and toads to get in and out..your fish could be taken by a Heron. Ours were and it was so disheartening to see them disappear one by one or 3-4 at a time.

    1. It's definitely a cat which annoys Tony no end. He isn't a cat lover at the best of times

  2. Cats are a pain we have a pond in the middle of our house many traditional Japanese houses have them and what we were told and did was to dig a deep pond so the koi could hide so that’s what we did and we also put rushes in they are pretty effective at keeping cats away.

    1. We bought a couple of rushes yesterday. Hopefully that will do the trick.

  3. Although we don't have a pond with fish, most people net them here to stop birds taking their fish, but I've never known anyone with a cat problem. Looking good. Take care & hugs.

    1. A few years ago someone in this area set up a camera to see what was pinching his fish. It turned out to be an otter.

  4. Lovely, and we have given up on goldfish--the local raccoons are more than happy to take a bath and have lunch, too! One year we had LOTS of clam shells scattered about the walkways---seems they dug up clams in the lake, walked two blocks with them to open in our pond and sprinkling system, have lunch and then cast the shells about! Too funny. We are finally getting a camera system up--just to maybe catch their antics! Fun post!

    1. This is our last try with goldfish. If we lose these then we will stick to having a wildlife pond.
