Tony and I had fancied going to the Harrogate Flower Show today but were put off by the weather forecast. We decided that the £44 we would save on tickets plus the cost of fuel could be better spent in one of our local garden centres.... So we did. Tony has bought a selection of veggie seeds chosen by me to put away for my Christmas present. He also bought me a bundle of hazel stakes and a gorgeous hat for gardening in. I asked him to put them all away for Christmas as I would far rather he gave me something I would get a great deal of pleasure out of than something that will get stuck in a drawer and forgotten about. I'll have forgotten all about them by the big day so it's a double delight. The last time we were going to a Harrogate flower show our car was almost written off when the bonnet flipped open and smashed through the sunroof and the front windscreen while we were travelling at around 60 miles an hour. Thankfully Tony was driving and was as calm as anything. I'm not sure we would be alive to tell the tale if I had been driving.
While wandering around the various garden centres we bought some bedding plants for a splash of Autumn colour and loads of spring flowering bulbs. It's going to be really colourful out there next spring. Lunch at our favourite place finished off our morning out beautifully.
This afternoon the kids came over for a cuppa to tell us all about their recent holiday and a chat about the upcoming wedding. I'm getting quite excited about the thought of it all but a bit unsure what to wear as although it's going to be very informal we have to go to the register office before the 'handfasting ceremony' for the legalities. I'd welcome some suggestions... Think ' in a field at the end of October'.
I would say layers, just in case it warms up, and autumnal colours would be lovely. I want to stock up on more tulips this Fall, as the garden is lacking them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gill. I'm fortunate in that shades of brown and rust do suit me.
DeleteI think I would prefer a good garden centre to a flower show any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteI'd do layers too, Autumnal colours maybe but whatever colours suit you best>
I'm off to an informal wedding next Saturday and I'm doing a new top, black leggings and my black ankle boots, properly shined up for the occasion. With a bit of a bling and some make up, it will be fine and no-one will be looking at me anyway, will they? It's different for you, I guess.
xx
My first thoughts about a wedding in a field and what to wear is no high heels in fact sensible shoes so your feet don't get wet or if it is muddy. Perhaps a leggings/slacks outfit better than a dress. Hat....I wonder...it might be windy. Totally agree with the previous comments about layers and the colours. Keep well Amanda x
