Blimey it's cold

I've been out for my walk this morning and it's colder now than it was first thing. I'm wearing a nice warm  brushed thermal 'heatgen plus' top and have had to pop a fleece on too. Thankfully the weather looks set to warm up a bit next week though we are rapidly entering Autumn now so can hardly expect summer temperatures. My whist group starts back up today and I'm going out for lunch with a friend before we head over to Redcar. I've taken advantage of the 'Coals2u offer and stocked up with our favourite 'Homefire Ovals' for the woodburner. I ordered ten 25kg bags at a cost of  £100.50 It's a huge saving as I bought two orders of four bags each time to see us through this last winter and it cost me a total of  £112.40 for the eight bags.  I'm glad I took them up on the offer as it's no longer as good a buy but there are often money off coupons on the web. With a bit of luck we will have a mild spring and ten bags will see us right through as this past year we kept the fire burning a lot longer into the year than we would normally have done. It's lovely waking up to a toastie warm house in the depths of winter and I have a little kettle that I use on top of the woodstove so it's a bit of a saving there. I've been known to warm the occasional tin of soup or beans on there too and cooked jacket potatoes one year.  I simply moved all the coals to one side and wrapped the spuds with foil before placing them in the firebox. It was a fun experiment but it's useful to know that it works if ever we should need to cook that way

  1. The pellet stoves are picking up here a bit. We got rain so a little cooler weekend but still in the 70F ranges.

    1. I'm hoping for some nice mild weather during September as it is cold and dark for such a long time. The nights are drawing in quickly now and it's dark on a morning when we get up.

  2. Oh, that's great. Sales like that can save you so much money. I am having a wood burning insert put into my fireplace. Can't wait! It's on order.

    1. I can just imagine you sitting knitting in front of that wood burner right though the cold months.
