Visually stunning

This morning while putting the salads together for our lunches for the next couple of days I added pieces of Gladioli... Yup, they're edible.  Some edible flowers are revolting but Gladioli have a mild sweetish almost lettuce like flavour. I've often added Marigolds and pansies but have been waiting for the Gladioli to open.  I could kick myself as I gave dozens away when I was converting the garden into a mini allotment.  I didn't know at the time that they were edible.... I do now.

Now doesn't that look gorgeous

There's a whole industry selling edible flowers and they don't come cheap but please do your research. Not all flowers are edible and some edible ones just might not agree with you.

And just in case you haven't seen enough here's another picture.  Everything in the salad came from the garden and was fresh picked minute before being put together in my glass bowl. I chopped up some shop bought pickled beetroot and added a dash of mayo before adding the protein bit to the salad.  The salads for the next two day are feta cheese and walnut. Wednesday and Thursday are likely to be prawn and Friday will be chicken... unless I change my mind. Tony isn't the slightest bit picky bless him and will eat whatever I give him.. he knows the alternative choice if he should ever complain :-)

There's baby sprout leaves, rainbow chard, Tuscan kale, Florence fennel, cucamelons, tomatoes, cucumber, basil and a variety of flowers.

  1. It looks so colourful, but my DH isn't keen on salad & I've never tried flower petals. Thanks for the info, take care & hugs.
