The pond

Tony and I have worked ourselves to a standstill this weekend and we are chuffed to bits at the results. We deliberately left the pond high of the ground so that we could tuck sandstone blocks all around it and create hidey holes for newts.

Then we placed more sandstone blocks onto the edges of the liner. Once we had done this we back filled with decorative bark and planted some edging plants. They don't look much yet but will take off next year. We're planning on tucking crocus and miniature daffodil bulbs into the pockets all around the edge  for a nice splash of spring colour next year.

This hanging basket has been flowering since late April and has been an absolute riot of colour. The busy lizzie are just starting to come into their own now and it will be interesting to see how long they flower for.  We had beautiful plants right into November one year.

It's all growing well in the veggie garden and we are eating fresh produce every day.

The gutter garden has been really productive and I'll be filling it with lettuce and radish in a week or two.

Tony has been busy making a cold frame for me and done a cracking job of it. It's going to be put to very good use over the coming years.

  1. Great work you two & it's looking good. Just think if this Covid thingy hadn't hit us all, we'd have been there now & maybe could have seen the garden in person. Just feeling a little melancholy this morning, so thanks for update, take care & hugs.

    1. Thank you Stephenie. We are gradually settling down into the thought of retirement here and making it just how we want it before we become old and possibly frail.

    1. Thanks Sandi, the gutter garden has been brilliant for growing shallow rooted plants. I reckon a fence made of a pallets could be the base for a really long gutter garden and would greatly increase growing space in a small garden. Just remember to keep it well watered as it dries out quite quickly.
