Tony and I had planned on visiting the local 'Open Gardens' today but the weather has been awful. It wouldn't be much fun trailing around gardens in the lashing rain so we didn't bother. My friend Marian invited me round for a cuppa and a game of Rumikub so off I toddled. She's been painting her bedroom so offered me the tin of white paint that she had left over. It spurred me on to make a fresh start on the dolls house I was given about ten years ago.
I've given it two coats of white emulsion since taking the photo but it's going to need at least one more coat as it's soaking in like crazy. I intend to make every bit of furniture, carpets, rugs and soft furnishings myself so this is really going to be a very long term project. It will be a lovely challenge and is going to call on many of my crafting skills.
I really love this idea of creating, making and filling the bare bones of your doll's house yourself. I think it could be quite a creative adventure :-) There's an idea sprouting in my mind about doing something like this to leave for my great grandchildren. I of course hope to be around to meet them but should that not be the case they will have something very solid to remember me by and perhaps pass down. At present it is just a thought! I shall look forward with interest how you progress with your dolls house. It is a nice size. keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to working on it. There are some lovely videos on You Tube.

Thanks Joy. I'll work on it as and when the mood takes me
DeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your project progress. You may need to go back and use a primer as some wood just keeps soaking up the paint forever.
ReplyDeleteI made a replica of a friend's dining/living room area many years ago - a lady with whom I boarded between years at university. We kept in touch afterward and she returned the piece to me when she entered a nursing home. It was very satisfying to make everything from scratch, much more interesting than buying everything.
I think you may well be right. I definitely should have primed it before I started.
