I can hardly believe that it's March already. Do you say White Rabbits on the first day of the month? I've no idea why I do but it's something I've said my entire life. So what have you been up to today? The sun did eventually get out here and although it wasn't as warm as yesterday it was pleasant enough to work outside. Tony and I have decreased the gravel patio and increased the lawn by 2ft 6''. It's not really the time of year to sow grass seed but it has two chances,.. Live or die. We've covered it in bird netting to keep the birds off and now we wait with fingers crossed. Tony bought me a load of compost when he went to get some bark for me. I've filled the square bed that we created and have put wire netting on top to keep the local cat population from using it as a toilet. In a week or two it might be warm enough to sow some radishes as we have a mini micro climate here and often it's much warmer than the rest of the country. We've finished giving the fence its first coat and Tony has made a start on the second coat. It's amazing at how much difference the second coat is making but I won't be able to do any while Tony is at work because although I can get up onto the wall to paint, I can't get back down without his help. We've worked up a real appetite today so I am cooking turkey mince with mashed turnip and potatoes and loads of veggies. I've whisked up a batch of Yorkshire puds as I am sure we have earned them.

Grass is pretty robust - I'm sure it will be fine.

Yes, we always say White Rabbits, too!
ReplyDeleteJon sowed grass seed before we went to Greece and came back eleven days later to discover it was the same length as the exisiting lawn, most successful sowing ever. Jon set up a series of twigs to stop the pigeons, the cats used it as an assult course! x
White rabbits along with a pinch and a punch for the first of the month. How horrible is that and yet it is something that my brother did and brings back fond memories.
