Planting summer fruit.

Tony is now off work until Easter so this morning we popped out to our local shopping centre to pick up a few things for the garden. In B and M they were selling blueberry and raspberry plants so I decided we needed some for the garden. This of course meant I had to rig a fruit cage over the fruit plot as I haven't gotten around to making the wooden one that I have planned. If I don't get around to making a permanent one at least any fruit that might grow this year won't be taken by the birds.  I didn't realise that blueberries grew so tall though. I have had to rig the cage 6ft high and I am lucky that the net I have was big enough to cover it.  I will be glad when we have warm summer evenings as the temperatures drop really quickly at this time of year and today it has drizzled on and off. Not enough to stop me working in the garden but just enough to make everything slightly damp. Have you been up to anything today?

  1. I am still trying to work out how to keep the deer from eating everything. Sigh. I'm not sure whether to bother or not. I can't seem to plan more than a few weeks ahead right now as so much seems up in the air.

    1. My friend's daughter is plagued with deer. She was enchanted the first few times she saw them but now they are just a nuisance.

  2. I think I've been lucky with birds not scoffing my fruit. Down the allotment, I will be protecting the strawberries, mind you, and the mange tout as they emerge. The pigeons are so greedy!

  3. I fed my fruit trees some homemade compost. After watering them, I added some straw mulch as a top layer. The blossoms are starting to appear.
