A wander around my garden

 I've had a lovely time working in the garden today and got absolutely loads done before the weather took a turn for the worse and battered us with a hail storm.  At the bottom of the newly painted fence the gravel was spilling underneath from next door and it looked an eyesore. I used some spare bricks that we have to build our wall a little higher so that we can't see the gravel now.

I decided to pull my 'leaky hosepipe' up from around the pond. It will be far more useful underneath the new hedge but I might need to jab a few more holes along the length of it.

Then I used four decorative stepping stones to create a path across to the veggie plot as I am wearing away the grass there to and from the path

Tony attached the leaky hose to a water butt for me and between us we fed it along underneath the new hedge. It will give the soil an extra boost all summer long as it does tend to get very dry along the hedge line. I need to bung a cork in the end so that the water doesn't just run out at the bottom of the garden.

In the left hand corner is the water butt that will now keep the bottom of the hedge watered. 

Then I dragged my radish filled planter across the patio and hauled it up onto the spot where the bricks had been piled. It's nice and sheltered there and the garage wall will reflect the heat back onto the tub. My intention is to put basil in it this year as we love basil. I planted the rooted cutting of a spotted laurel in the tub that is in the corner.  Give it a couple of years and it will brighten that corner nicely.  The other tub is filled with a gorgeously fragrant 'Pink'. My friend Brenda bought it for me after my hip operation. The fragrance is absolutely knockout and it will fill that corner with scent all summer long

Last year I took some Daphne cuttings and if they take root I might put one in a big tub next to the garden table.  It's such a wonderfully fragrant plant and it will fill the patio with scent all through late 

March and April. 

After looking back through the photo's I realised just how dreadful one of the water butts looked as it was covered in green algae. I gave it a good scrub and then Tony moved it around a bit so I can get my watering can underneath. It will save me dragging the hose out every time I want to water anything. He needs to put the plug back on the pond pump and my little water feature as the sound of water bubbling is lovely on a warm summers evening.
