Easter project

I've switched out my header photo for a few days to show you a little project you could make with the kids/grandkids. Some of them are mice made from blown eggs covered in paper pulp. They were given googly eyes and tails made from crochet cotton. The paper pulp was made from brown paper that came in an Amazon package. The round balls are widgets from beer cans but I have also on different occasions used the plastic roller balls that you get in deodorant bottles., I covered them in the same paper pulp. They are a nice base for a project and I've made them in loads of different colours when I was going through my 'paper pulp' patch. Coloured scraps of paper were soaked in water and then whizzed up in my blender to form a pulp. You don't need any glue for this as the paper pulp tightens as it dries and forms a hard skin on the object that you have covered. You could paint them with acrylic paint but in truth I would just use coloured paper. PVA glue makes a great varnish if you want them to be shiny. I also made some creepy looking heads which I turned into maracas, and a fox and a bear using the same technique.. The possibilities are endless.

Blown eggs and paper pulp. Painted with acrylic paint.

I made paper mache bowls and used the different coloured broken eggshells like mini mosaic to cover the bowls. Again, design possibilities are endless and as you can see it cost nothing but a bit of glue.

  1. They are so cool, if I tried that with the kids, I can imagine my 4 year old willow trying to eat the papier-mâché . She’s good at baking though. I bought her a Pokemon cookbook for Xmas and she has done nearly every single recipe with me.
She loves making pom poms I have two bag fulls. And two sprayed hearts. So I just need to sit with her now.
The last time I made papier-mâché was when I was at uni . Funny thing to make when your a nursing student! Take care and keep safe. We are all fit and well the kids send kisses

  2. We went through a papier mache phase an made many things. I loved it, we used to cover balloons and make vases and Tom made a lovely blackbird over wire. I love those little fox heads. You are making me want to do it again, lol

    1. I like to make them in the summer and leave them out in the sun to dry.

  3. I don't think I'd cope with such tiny bits of egg shell. Ten out of ten for your patience. Love the paper mache characters.

  4. Very clever & I've not touched papier mache since I was at school. Except for the creepy heads it all sounds interesting. The egg shell bowls remind of what my blog friend in Canada does (mmmquilts on my sidebar)with sea glass to make bowls. So many clever people about. Take care, stay safe & hugs.

  5. They are adorable, such a great project. It would be wonderful to be able to do something like this with my Grandchildren, I live in hope that it will be sooner rather than later.
