A busy day so far

I went for my morning walk at 07.45 this morning. When I got back I set to and nailed the rest of the edge boards on the new potting shed and gave them a lick of Willow coloured preservative. It looks lovely now and the very next time the weather is decent I plan to make a start moving things from the big workshop down into the potting shed. I am really looking forward to making a start as I want to use the space that the big shed currently occupies.  Gardens are always evolving aren't they.

I couldn't understand why it looked so nice when I looked out of the window. Then I remembered that I moved the mini greenhouse over to the edge of the garden this morning. Now I can see the full length of the garden from my spot on the sofa. I can look at the birds on the feeders from the sofa too.  This afternoon I have done some winter sowing but I have put that on my veggie garden blog if you are interested. I've cooked some mince and onions ready to warm up for tea and made three salad/pasta boxes for Tony's packed lunches this coming week.  One prawn, one ham and one cheese and ham. A lot of the green leafy veggies came from the garden. It still gives me so much pleasure to wander along the veg bed picking beet leaves, radish leaves, lettuce and baby chard to add to his lunches.  For tea tonight I picked two varieties of kale, some chard and loads of sprout leaves. They will be lovely shredded and lightly steamed with Yorkshire puds, mashed potatoes and the mince that I cooked this morning. I've stopped for a rest and browse of tinterweb as I want to take a look at some more English Paper Piecing videos.  That's my current obsession.. Have you been up to much today?

  1. I seem to have spent a lot of today on the phone.Firstly, a friend who is 85,her husband is 88 and has dementia. They have not been called for vaccination.Secondly, a friend who is 87,wife 85 not been called. We all live in Wales.
Then I phoned a friend in England. She is in her seventies, her partner the same. They have had their vaccination.Very frustrating and very disappointing.Moan over!!!
Since our latest lockdown started on December 20th I have been using up yarn from my stash to crochet granny squares for a blanket for charity.I have done over 60 so my next job is to choose a yarn to join them together to start tonight. Before Thursday I have to re read The Familiars by Stacey Halls for my reading Group Zoom meeting.Yep,I will have to make a meal as well.
All that should keep me busy.
    Stay safe.

    1. Hi Barbara. My neighbour is 82 and hasn't been invited for the jab yet. Her friends who are in their late seventies have already had theirs. It must be very worrying for the vulnerable groups. Who chooses the book for your book club or do you each get a turn to choose?

    1. I love my life and it's definitely peaceful. More so because we aren't allowed to go out due to the restrictions. This time last year I was invigilating exams at the local uni... all stopped because of Covid.

  3. We have Martin Luther King Day here, so I technically have a holiday, but I've worked about three hours already today. I made some banana bead with a couple my daughter gave me form her freezer as she had s many, and i made a tuna pasta salad for a change of pace lunch. I feel like some days I am just more productive than others and today is one-no a nap might be in order.

    1. I didn't even know there was such a thing as Martin Luther King day. Is it a big event?

  5. Sort of busy in a funny way, with trying to finish the quilt on the big machine until it had a hissy fit on last row & that will be fixed this morning. It stopped drizzling & a couple called in for a cup of tea as were finishing lunch & they wanted to see extended shed & garden. Then we mowed lawns (me front, K back), then I delivered some blueberries to neighbours & I'd not realised how fast the day had gone & it was time for tea. Take care & hugs from down under.

    1. The smell of fresh cut grass is one of the first things I look forward to each spring.

  6. Your shed is looking amazing. You really have a great work ethic. I start counting down to warming the compost ready for my seedlings which always bring me joy.

    1. I warmed some compost and sowed some chilli and red pepper seeds yesterday. I have them on a shelf in the sitting room as they are likely to take several weeks to germinate. When they germinate I will pop them under the lamp as it's on all evening anyway and isn't costing any extra.. It's a bit of a nuisance for a while but with a bit of luck I should have big strong healthy plants to put out in late spring
