I have just learned that Hostas are edible. Seeing as how we have ten or so different varieties in large tubs they have now justified their place in my edible garden for next year. I'm planning to only plant edible beautiful or perfumed plants from now on. Have any of you lovely people eaten hostas before?
I haven't eaten them myself but we feed the to Jacob, they're recommended for tortoises. x
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to find out what they taste like
DeleteWell I suppose it goes to show that anything a snail finds tasty must be edible.(lol).
ReplyDeleteBleurgh,, I've seen snails eating their dead friends
DeleteI pulled all my Hostas out as they are not my favorite. But I just received a gift of candied, dried fruit and one of them is candied dried hibiscus! So I guess we can learn more and more of what is edible! Andrea
ReplyDeleteWe have some really pretty ones as they are something Tony really likes. I have a couple of favourites
DeleteInteresting! Can't wait to see the garden come together. It sounds like an interesting project.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying planning layouts for it at the moment.
DeleteAre they? That's a surprise. I await your taste test results with anticipation.

We have a few that throw out loads of new shoots so I will give it a try next year
DeleteIts amazing what is actually edible isnt it? But someone sometime must have had a play with an aloe vera plant to know it is edible and has other properties? You might be on to something with hostas. The slugs love them so that might be a clue as to how good they are.
ReplyDeleteDid you see Nigella making curry with banana skins a few weeks ago?
I stir fried banana skins last year and though they weren't unpleasant I wasn't overly keen. I'd eat them if I really had to though
