Up with the larks this morning

It's blimmin typical. The one morning that my friend isn't able to walk I woke up early. Most mornings I drag myself out of bed to go for a walk. No problem though as the urge to clean has hit me.  The washing machine is half way through a load, the tumble dryer is doing its thing and I've  given the kitchen and living room a major clean. I won't put the hoover around until much later though as that wouldn't be fair on my neighbours. It's only 7.15 so I will get the whole house spotless in no time at this rate.  I wish this urge to clean attacked me a bit more often then my house would be permanently sparkling. Tea tonight is a cottage pie from the freezer with veggies from the garden. We had half yesterday and it was really nice not having to cook for a change. Later today I want to divide up a large packet of minced steak and a kilo of chicken thighs. If I break them down into smaller portions I can use as much or as little as I need for a recipe. I intend to make a bolognese sauce for tomorrows tea as it's ages since we had a spag bol. I like to make the sauce the day before to give it chance for the flavour to develop. What are you all up to today?

  1. We have just eaten a Menestra (vegetable stew). It is one of Sr P's favourite and its perfect for a cold windy miserable day. We have enough for tomorrow too and it will taste better for sure. Like you I think stews and soups and sauces taste much better 24 hours after making them. Leave them to stand my MIL used to say and so I always make sure I make ample for at least two meals. keep well Amanda x

  2. Yes, it does improve if it's used the following day, same with lasagna. Those cleaning urges are really valuable. I wish I felt that way today. I am a little burnt out on chores, but there is more work to be done. Bit by bit...
