One day at a time

I've decided that I'll take it slowly dismantling Christmas 2020 here in Kemp Castle.  I intend to do one room at a time each day and then it isn't such an onerous task. Today I've stripped off the Christmas bedding and that's all washed and drying. The bed has been re made with my lovely fleece bedding but in truth it was the turn of the kitchen so I have given everything a thorough scrub before putting it all away and returning our kitchen to normal. While I was doing that I turned the last of the cranberries into some cranberry and orange jelly/jam.  It will last a week or two in the fridge and will be a nice addition to sandwiches and toasties. Yesterday I cooked a big piece of pork in my slow cooker so that there would be plenty of leftovers for Tony's packed lunches this coming week. We had a lovely roast dinner last night  with plenty of fresh veg from the garden. Today we are having pork with chips, gravy and some veg from the freezer. I've used the cooking stock from the slow cooker to make a pan full of pasta and lentils. It tastes absolutely gorgeous and will be lovely for tea tomorrow.

It looks very bare now.  I still need to switch over the net curtains

The snow has hung around all day even though it has rained on and off so it must be blimmin cold out. It's nice to have the wood burner just chugging away warming the whole house.I had a delivery of smokeless fuel just before Christmas and it's really economical to use.  We had bought a brand that was half the price from a local shop but it produced so much ash and didn't give out half as much heat. I was more than happy to pay almost twice the price for a much more efficient fuel. It keeps the whole of  downstairs at a lovely temperature and if it gets a little warm for me I just open the door and let the heat go upstairs to warm the bedrooms. I think we have plenty in stock to see the whole of the winter out but I can soon place an order for more if we have an exceptionally cold long winter.

  1. You have a lot of things to put away...I can see taking it one room at a time! Something cathartic about putting things to right, isn't there?

  2. Sounds like a busy day and it sounds like you have a plan putting everything away. I just seem to sit and stare at it and hope somehow it magically transforms itself lol

  3. It must be very cold for the snow to be staying in place. We cut our own firewood most of the time, but occasionally have to buy some in. Ah jam! I suppose I'll be making some of that before long with so many blueberries this year. My slow cooker gets used plenty, even in summer & I love it. A marvelous item when I worked full time & the kids were young. Take care, stay warm & huggles. PS. I'll be in touch soon about that challenge....
