Role reversal

This morning Tony has gone for a walk with his friend and I have just cleaned the baffle plate on my wood stove. My chimney sweep showed me how to do this a few years ago but seeing as how not many of my friends with woodstoves knew this should be done I thought you might like a quick video link. This is a similar style of stove to the one we have but there are other styles so you might want to take a quick look on you tube. Make sure that your stove is cold before you start seems a bit of a daft instruction but please don't attempt it if you have been using the stove.. Let it cool down.  You have been warned :-)

You will need a torch so that you can see the two pins that hold the baffle plate in place but it really is dead straight forward.. Having said that I think Tony has only ever done it once after I showed him. Somehow it's another job that became mine.

  1. Well you live and you learn! We've had a wood burner for 15 years and have never cleaned the baffle plate. Jon and I both watched the video and Jon's currently sweeping away 15 years of accumulated ash! thanks, Cherie! xxx

  2. Good for you. I had the chimney sweep here last October to clean the one for my fireplace. It's still working well, and I will have it swept again next year.

    1. It's surprising how much ash can build up. I do ours a couple of times a year.

  4. I don't think our development even allows us to burn wood. Your gardens (your last post)...beautiful! You have them so neat and nice...I know that is hard work! Andrea
