A couple of years ago I decided to eat my meals from a smaller plate. At first it was really hard to see the portion size that Tony was having compared to mine. Gradually over time I got accustomed to eating less so then I bought a smaller bowl for my breakfast cereal. It looked tiny compared to the one I had been using but I was astonished to find that when I weighed out thirty grams of cereal it filled the bowl nicely. Goodness knows how much I had been eating before the swap. Then Tony got on board and he started asking for smaller portions too which made it easier for my willpower. Occasionally we like a dessert and we decided to use tiny glass bowls from an old fashioned set that I bought in a charity shop... I love old glass. The lard is dropping off us both and Tony is even keener than me to lose a stone. It's much easier now that we are both singing from the same song sheet. The poppy bowl is our original bowl. If I am serving homemade soup as a main meal I still use that but for everything else it's the smaller bowls.
Day two of the gammon
For breakfast I had a lovely cheese and ham omelette. I used one egg with a splash of milk. Two slices of gammon and half a slice of cheese. I only put the cheese on one half of the omelette as it would be folded in half anyway
Tony is having gammon and salad sandwiches for his packed lunch tomorrow. I spread the bread with the remaining third of yesterdays avocado as it was a lovely creamy one. Then I layered sliced gammon, tomatoes and cucumber. He always takes two pieces of fruit and the little tub contains almonds and sultanas for a snack.
A little update to show my lunch. I had a gammon and salad open sandwich with sauerkraut. Very tasty it was too.
That's a beautiful little bowl.

I thought that when I saw it. It felt absolutely tiny when i first started using it but now feels normal size. The big bowl looks enormous in comparison.
DeleteA protein breakfast is very good, keeps you fuller for longer. Years ago dinner plates were smaller and food remained in the centre of the plate and not go on the rim. Bowls were not only smaller they were quite shallow too. Our crockery has got bigger and bigger. I don't use Costa anymore but I once forgot to say the cup size I wanted and was given a huge mug that I could have dived in!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish they would give us the option of having smaller plates in nice crockery sets.
DeleteI don't eat eggs too much, but I think if I ate more I'd be happy. They are very cheap here, less than a dollar a dozen and one winter they were 38 cents a dozen. I would have to fast from them before my annual cholesterol test though. Pretty bowls. Andrea
ReplyDeleteCrikey, that is cheap. I thought £4 for two and half dozen was cheap. I only ever buy free range eggs. Caged bird eggs are even cheaper but I won't even consider buying them
DeleteI've used a smaller plate for years, our normal set have 10" plates which are far to large. Portion size is always our downfall.
ReplyDeleteAll looks very yummy!
