I have had a very lucky escape this afternoon. I picked up a large heavy plant pot just a bit too quickly and three small garden canes bit me on the face narrowly missing my eye. I didn't even know they were in the pot as it's filled with dwarf french beans and so they were completely hidden by the foliage. It sickens me to the stomach to think that had I not been wearing glasses it would have put my eye out. I am going to have two lovely cuts on my face for a few days until they heal up. It shook me up a bit too so I came indoors to wash the blood off my face and abandoned my gardening for the afternoon. I wouldn't care but they did have cane toppers on when I popped them into the pot. They must have blown off in the wind at some point. It's taught me a very valuable lesson and I won't be in a hurry to pick up a pot without first having a look in amongst the foliage.
Oh no, what a nasty accident, I can't say whether you were lucky because it missed your eye, or unlucky because it happened in the first place. No wonder you're shaken up at the thought of what might have happened. I hope it's not too painful and heals quickly
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's really kind of you to take the time to comment.
ReplyDeleteSo you didn't damage your eye. My daughter recently bent over to pick something off the floor and a cane in one of her plant pots did go right into her eye. Very nasty. Fortunately, it was the white of the eye but it made a nasty cut in it which is taking a while to heal up. She can still see through her eye but is having a bit of ptsd from the shock and horror of it. Keep wearing the glasses!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Poor girl. I fully understand the PTSD though now. I couldn't get to sleep for thinking what if.
DeleteOh my! poor you...i bet you wish you could go back a couple of minutes in time! Andrea
ReplyDeleteIt's taught me a very valuable lesson.
DeleteI'm glad it didn't get you in the eye, Cherie. Still nasty though. Hope it's not too painful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sooze. It's not very comfortable but should heal pretty quickly.
DeleteBeen there done it, it's horrible. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks. x
DeleteI'm glad you're okay. That must have been really scary.
ReplyDeleteIt shook me up quite badly and I am no wimp.
DeleteOh no! Hope it isn't too painful.
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit sore but I'll live :-)
DeleteThat could have been very nasty! Lesson learnt, yes, but they had toppers as far as you knew. How is it this morning? Better, I hope.

I have a sore stiff face today. Could have been worse so I am counting my lucky stars.
DeleteI can only echo the comment above. Thank goodness you were wearing glasses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol
DeleteI hate sticks in pots they always get me, a few years ago I found a children garden set of pick up sticks, they had brightly painted tips, so I purchased them for my pots, I always use toppers, but they do fall off, at least I can see where the blighters are. Hope you heal soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am going to invest in some very brightly coloured cane toppers. At least I will remember to look for them in the pots in future
DeleteHope there isn't too much damage or pain, wishing you well.
ReplyDeleteThank you.x
DeleteOuch! that made my knees go funny. What a relief you had your specs on. I hope the scratches heal soon.
ReplyDeleteI remember a friend of my dad's visiting us when I was little and being fascinated by the fact he'd been blinded in one eye by an octopus. It wasn't until years later that I discovered it was one of those elasticated contraptions with hooks on the ends that people used to keep their luggage on the roof rack rather than an angry sea creature. xxx
It made my knees go funny too. Scared the flippin life out of me.
